Afghanistan Emergency

Afghanistan is in crisis. Decades of war, instability, & famine have left thousands dead & millions in urgent need of humanitarian aid.

As it stands, an estimated 77% of the population live below the poverty line. More than 1 million children are at risk of death & an additional 22 million adults are suffering from food insecurity.

With little means to make ends meet, unemployment soaring & food prices spiralling out of control, those who are the most vulnerable in society are suffering tremendously.

Countless poverty struck families, women & children are now being pushed to new extremes in order to survive.

Those looking for a way out have fled from their homes in search for a brighter future. They are now displaced & unprotected from what lies ahead.

Millions In Afghanistan At Risk Of Starvation

In the excess of 8.3 million people across Afghanistan are in need of urgent humanitarian aid as a result of extreme food insecurity.

They do not have enough food to stay healthy & are now at severe risk of malnutrition & disease.

Poor nutrition for children in particular is life threatening which can often lead to fatalities without urgent attention.

Drought & Conflict Leaves Afghanistan Thirsty

Water scarcity in Afghanistan has become a major crisis.

Prior to the war, economic collapse & recent state of affairs, the region was already suffering from the worst drought in 27 years. This has had a detrimental effect on available food, water & other supplies.

According to recent estimates, the country only has access to 10% of the renewable freshwater resources for its population of over 30 million.

This lack of freshwater results in issues with sanitation & hygiene contributing to poor health outcomes & also the rise in poverty across the region, leaving those most vulnerable at severe risk.

Afghanistan’s Vulnerable Lack The Resources To Survive

Millions of people across Afghanistan are without the essential resources required for their survival.

Subject to famine, displacement & war, they lack access to even the most basic necessities which include food, water & shelter.

Health care services across the country are also under immense strain as they risk being pushed over the limit due to a high demand & a shortage of medical supplies.

As a result, countless individuals many of whom are women & children are going untreated. They are at grave risk of losing their lives.

Afghanistan’s Vulnerable Lack The Resources To Survive

One of the most extreme effects of the pandemic is the impact of COVID-19 on poverty in Afghanistan.

For those already suffering from draught, famine & war the covid-19 outbreak has severely impacted every aspect of their lives.

The closing down of borders & restrictions on movement during this period led to a decrease in foreign aid reaching those in need. Although the pandemic may have come to an end, the effects of it are lasting.

You can help aid the recovery of those in urgent need across Afghanistan by bringing them hope & sustenance through your actions of generosity.
